I suppose when I began MacSense in January of this year I never rea-
lized I’d get this far. Like most home-grown publications, I thought
that MacSense would eventually fizzle out due to poor readership, bad
quality, or a general lack of dedication on my part. With each passing issue, however, my dedication to the publication grew. I began to nurture a general “vision” for MacSense, and recruited a small staff to help out.
In the days before Issue 9, I came to the conclusion that the look wasn’t quite right for an elec- tronic publication. I felt MacSense needed to be more professional to succeed, and this required having a sharp, clean design which conveyed something about the publication. Ironically, it all began with the application’s icon. Unsatisfied with the yellow-gray dullness of it, I set out to make it a bit more eye-catching. Once I had redesigned the icon, I decided I had to redesign the footers – and then the mast head. A bold new look soon emerged.
Upon the completion of Issue 9, I felt (for the first time) completely satisfied with the pro- duct. In my mind, MacSense was finally ready for international distribution. And so Issue 9 was released onto both OneNet and the Internet.
Response has been amazing. We’ve received letters from as far away as California, and we have been given our own file library on the First-Class based Precursor BBS in Winnipeg. Not one comment we have received has been negative. It’s gratifying to hear from readers who enjoy MacSense – the many compliments have taught us that hard work really is its own reward.
The vision of MacSense remains the same: to quickly deliver accurate and interesting information to the Macintosh community. We take pride in our ever-expanding content and welcome your suggestions (and contributions) for future feature articles. In the works now are a number of regular columns, including “Feedback” for letters to the editor, “Ask Mr. Macintosh” for res- ponses to technical questions asked by readers, and “Service Stories”, which debuted last issue with my own modem card horror story.
